Maine hasn’t picked their Stewardship Organization yet. Word is the RFP is held up in the Office of Information Technology. (The state’s portion of the program is more complex than other states because the SO won’t handle the money, the state will).
However, statutory deadlines, including reporting 2026 data and paying 2027 fees, still apply. The best move is to start getting ready because when it happens, it will happen fast.
It’s been any day now since November! Hopefully it drops soon so we can get this party started. The State does have a role in approving proposed expenditures in infrastructure and education, but the SO will be managing the stewardship fund—money coming in from producers and out to towns for reimbursements.
Thank you for the updated/corrected information, very helpful! There is a lot of interest among producers on what to prepare for Maine (reports, expected fees, etc) and from municipalities on what information is needed qualify for recycling reimbursements.
