Hot take: no new EPR bills passed this year. As a former state legislator, here is what I think. California’s economy is so large, and SB54 is so complex and disruptive, it’s good we’ll have time to acclimate to EPR reporting there before too many other states ramp up.
On the other hand, legislators talk, state-to-state. The fact that California is making it look so difficult and expensive, adding huge costs at every level – including to groceries and workforce housing – has not gone unnoticed. I don’t think we’ll see any more packaging EPR bills for a while. Am I wrong? What do you think?
